Glutathione the Antioxidant

Glutathione could be found in many foods such as: Broccoli, cauliflower, Brussel sprouts, cabbage family, spinach, avocado, asparagus, and many more.

Glutathione (GSH) is an antioxidant that is found in plants and animals. Also, GSH is found in fungi and some bacteria. After all, they also need protection from free radicals.

Glutathione prevents damage to cellular components that are caused by reactive oxygen species (ROS). These are free radicals (for example: loss of an electron in lipid membranes of the cell that make up our tissue and organs), peroxides (H2O2), lipid peroxides, and heavy metals (for example: mercury, asbestos). The food we consume may lead to the accumulation of free radicals in our bodies. When you fry food, you may overheat the oil, which becomes a carcinogen, free radical, ROS, or toxin. Or, just simply, you may be exposed to a toxic environment (for example: cleaning agents, etc.

To get GSH, people may consume supplements, but it is easier and healthier to get GSH from cruciferous vegetables with thiol (sulfuric compounds). These foods are Broccoli, cauliflower, Brussel sprouts, cabbage family, spinach, avocado, asparagus, and many more. Also, our body synthesizes GSH. This peptide is made from amino acids cysteine, glutamic acid, and glycine (CGaG). These three amino acids are nonessential amino acids, which means that you can get them from animal products or plant products, so vegans do not have to complement foods to get those amino acids. Therefore, if you have an adequate nutritional regimen, you have enough of GSH in your system.
